Achva Haifa Club was founded 55 years ago as a place for Jewish and Arab kids to experience an example of active co-existence. Today some 700 youngsters, from age 3 to adulthood, participate together in sports according to their age group. They pay basketball and soccer, learn karate and boxing, and together achieve great heights in these areas. The coaches are also both Arab and Jewish and they work together in full cooperation.
Achva Haifa runs its programs in Al Zissu, a neighborhood where the majority of residents are of low socio-economic status. Some are new immigrants, from the FSU, and some are natives – both Jewish and Arab. There are no sports facilities for the youngsters in the neighborhood. For most of them, Achva Haifa was not only a place where they learned to play sports and act properly but it was a place to keep them off the streets of the neighborhood and away from the dangers lurking there.
We are seeking support to renovate and upgrade the soccer field to enable Achva Haifa to continue to serve these needy youngsters.
